The natural hair scene once seemed, to me at least, to be at its strongest in the USA--but natural communities around the world are catching up fast. Natural Hair Week UK is one sign that we across the pond are on a level with our American cousins when it comes to having fun with our natural hair and learning more about it all at once!
From the 2nd to the 9th of May this year, Natural Hair Week is touring the UK, going from Manchester, to Nottingham, to Birmingham, and finally, the last and as yet unvisited location: LONDON!
I was lucky enough to be hired as a Cantu hair model for the event in Nottingham, Cantu being one of the sponsors of this year's NHW. Soooo not only did I get to go along and have fun, I actually got to go behind the scenes and help out! This year was absolutely amazing; there were natural hair experts and stylists with years of experience in natural hair giving talks, doing demos, and even sitting on a panel to answer questions from both the event's host and the audience. There were expos by tons of natural hair companies, like Cantu (of course), whose stylists did demos throughout the day on both models and guests; Shea Moisture, and ORS. There were also other companies selling products as diverse as natural skin care, African-inspired accessories and clothing (Akhu Designs), and hand-made Afro-centric jewellery (SuperFunkyMe)! And on top of all that, the brilliant goodie bags were packed full of bonuses like t-shirts, discount vouchers, mud masks, and even a month's supply of Hairfinity hair vitamins!
I was lucky enough to meet many amazing ladies, including the lovely Naturally Zeze, Sian the Natural Haired Baker, and the lovely minds behind Officially Natural.!
Have you been to Natural Hair Week in one of the already-visited destinations? Are you planning to attend Natural Hair Week London? What did you think, or what are you looking forward to? Let me know in the comments!
